Franklin Auction 2020

Franklin Nights
These are challenging times. In light of the ongoing shelter-in-place mandate, our in-person auction event must be cancelled. But the auction is our PTA’s biggest fundraiser of the year and helps cover the costs of many important programs, so…the show must go on!

Franklin’s auction will move to an online format—including a “live” virtual event on April 24th from 8 to 9:30 pm—and EVERYONE can come!

We cannot emphasize enough how important the auction is to our annual PTA budget. Faced with reduced fundraising potential, we’d like to minimize the budget cuts that will no doubt be needed next year so we can continue to support school programs like art docent and student assemblies; events like our back to school ice cream social, Spooktacular, and year end class picnics; and the many contributions the PTA makes to pay for supplies for the media center, music classes, etc. Our biggest budget line items cover significant portions of the staff salaries for our reading and math intervention specialists, our mental health professional, classroom supplies for every teacher, and field trip buses to ensure all students can go on field trips. We want to be able to continue these programs next year, but we need your help! Please read on for important details about how our new auction format will work.

Auction Tickets

If you already purchased tickets to attend the live event, we will provide a donation receipt so that you can claim a tax deduction for the full paid amount. If you also purchased entry for the Heads or Tails Coin Toss, you will instead receive 5 raffle tickets for each coin toss entry. ** Ticket purchases are no longer needed to attend the “live” virtual auction on April 24th. Anyone and everyone can come! Tell your friends and family to join us too! **

Silent Auction

The silent auction is up and running online! There’s a wide selection of summer camps and kids’ classes, outings with our wonderful teachers, and fun excursions throughout Alameda and beyond. Think of these items as a light at the end of the tunnel—something to look forward to when we can safely leave our homes again and life gets back to normal! And keep checking the auction site regularly, as new items are being added each week!

“Live” Virtual Auction—April 24th from 8 to 9:30 pm

Get ready to zoom! You no longer need to purchase a ticket to attend the auction event, all you need is the Zoom app!

We’re moving to a “live” virtual format, where we’ll be able to socialize online, get into the groove, and participate in real-time bidding on our typical live auction items. We’ll have an emcee or two, funky background tunes, and maybe a few disco lights! Further details and a Zoom link are forthcoming, but in the meantime, start planning your best disco outfit and look for that disco ball (or Halloween lights!) collecting dust in the basement so you can help set the mood!

Raffle Tickets

We’re raffling off a Google Chromebook (perfect for those remote learning sessions!). Raffle tickets are available for $5 each on the auction website. You DO NOT need to attend the “live” virtual event on April 24th to win (but we’d really love it if you do!). So if you already know that you can’t join our virtual event, feel free to stock up on raffle tickets instead!

Event Sponsors

We realize this is a trying time financially for many people and companies, and as a result we’ve recently lost one of our main sponsors. If you or your company are in a position to sponsor our auction, we would very much appreciate it and would be happy to feature your name or logo on our auction site. Contact if you can help.

PTA fundraising is essential to a quality Franklin education.

We understand that many families have been financially impacted by the shelter-in-place mandate. However, this is a dire situation for our PTA as well. The auction raises roughly half of our budget every year. And the district is cutting Franklin’s discretionary budget for the 2020-2021 school year, which will put even more pressure on the PTA to fund programs and services for our students. If our community members choose not to support the auction as much this year, we will be forced to cut some of our programs and events. We need your help now more than ever!

Please consider bidding wildly, giving generously, sharing the auction information with family and friends, and doing whatever it takes to give our children the education they deserve—even without our annual auction gala. Our community is about more than just one night at the Elks Lodge. It’s about our love for our children and our commitment to our school. It’s about supporting local small businesses. And it’s about our willingness to put our money, our time, and our energy into Franklin to create a better community, not just for our kids but for everyone’s children. Let’s live our values and support our students, our teachers and staff, and our school to the fullest!
